Web4 comments. It's because Crunchyroll still uses flash player for videos. That extention only works for HTML5-based video players. If they ever update it to HTML5 it should work fine. People have been wanting that for a ages. It's extremely frustrating that Crunchyroll hasn't implemented it yet. I don't know of any ways to increase speed with flash.
